Subject: Panel session
Look forward to hearing your view point on the subject. I am sure I will see you earlier in the week...BUT you are ALL invited to the Author’s breakfast on Thur Morning...See ya there for sure...
My part will go as follows (roughly):
Characterization of Power Quality digitized event data is a fancy term for applying a name to a box of digitized points.
This group is the START of an effort to follow several other IEEE,IEC groups ,instrument makers, and software purveyors in laying out how to interpret the power quality BOX of digitized points for PRESENTATION and COMPARISON purposes...Where does the event start, end, measured from, etc. This will NOT be a discussion of What name to use...We will utilize the P1100 definitions ... period.
For purposes of discussion we will break the box of points into 5 groups....These groups are arbitrary..
· Magnitude - Duration
· Worse phase , Average Phase, Below 10%,From Nominal
· Transient
· Measured from ?
· Unsymetrical - Magnitudes
· The “old term is unbalance”
· Unsymetrical - Phase Angle
· Phase to phase zero crossing may be 120* or may not
· Event signature
· That’s a Capacitor transient, Lightning bolt, Fried Squirrel ....I need a Model #123 diode bridge to withstand that..I need ridethrough of ___Multiticks to not shut down for “that” ...Our rate calls for only so many of “those” per month....
Each of the Panel Members will speak to converting a box of digitized points to useful information FROM THEIR prospective.
We have John Csomay to discuss the site to site variation as seen from a Utility view. (my utility is better than yours ... view from the economic recruiters desk, or we guaranteed you perfect power view from the PQ engineers desk)
We have Dan Sabin to discuss some Pro’s and Con’s of how to start/stop the grouping of digitized data points with examples (the view from the programmers dilemma desk)
We have Doug Dour to discuss the equipment limitation that affect comparing data from different meters and thus comparing previous studies to current and future studies (the view from the comparative studies desk)
We have Doug Dour (again) to discuss the needs of a equipment design engineer based on system compatibility test done on specific pieces of equipment (the view from the equipment designers desk)
We have Larry Ray to discuss the box of digitized data available to most INDUSTRIAL SCADA owners. (the view from the “My boss is on my case” ...plant engr’s desk)
We have David Kriess to discuss the Expert system type analysis of a box of digitized data points. (the view from the it can all be solved by a computer ... expert system software designers desk)
We have allotted 20 minutes EACH which I WILL enforce AND 30 minutes for AUDIENCE participation...As this is just a start on this subject....we are NOT here to debate ...(sign up for a working group on this pad I am passing around)......THUS please hold you comments until the end...
Gentlemen ....Begin.
