IEEE P1249 Draft Guide for
Computer Based Controls for Hydroelectric Power Plant Automation
Project Scope
The original scope of the guide was to provide guidance
to the practicing engineer in the field of hydroelectric
power plants by describing the application, design concepts
and implementation of computer-based control systems for
hydroelectric power plant automation. It also addresses
functional capabilities, performance requirements, interface
requirements, tradeoffs, hardware considerations and includes
typical application examples.
Project Purpose
The guide has not been revised since completion of the
original work on the document in 1996. It is proposed to
make revisions to the guide to reflect the advances in technology
and to provide actual computer implementation in hydroelectric
power plants. The guide will be amended with the latest
case studies, software functions, HMI and communications
solutions.
