David Jablon Integrity Sciences, Inc. Burt Kaliski Chair, IEEE P1363 RSA Laboratories East 20 Crosby Drive Bedford, MA 01730 May 24, 1999 Burt, This is a response to your letter requesting information about patent coverage for P1363. Integrity Sciences has filed patent applications for methods related to key agreement schemes described in the current IEEE P1363 standard, and for key agreement methods under consideration for inclusion in P1363a. Specifically, our work relates primarily to password-authenticated key agreement protocols such as those described in our P1363 submission of the paper: D. Jablon, Strong Password-Only Authenticated Key Exchange, Computer Communication Review, ACM SIGCOMM, vol. 26, no. 5, pp. 5-26, October 1996. We do not believe that our patents will cover all uses of any schemes described in the current IEEE P1363 standard. However, these patents may cover specific uses of the P1363 key agreement schemes and the value derivation primitives that detect small subgroup confinement. This letter confirms our position that if and when such patents are granted to Integrity Sciences, we will gladly provide upon request a non-exclusive license for the use of such patents in utilizing methods in the IEEE P1363 and P1363a standards with reasonable terms and conditions. Anyone interested in information about our methods, patents, and licenses should contact Integrity Sciences at: Integrity Sciences, Inc. web: www.IntegritySciences.com email: dpj@IntegritySciences.com phone: +1 508 898 9024 This letter does not grant to the IEEE any rights to Integrity Sciences' patents, copyrights, trademarks, or other intellectual property. Sincerely, David Jablon President, Integrity Sciences, Inc.
