I am writing to you to inform IEEE P1363 working group that no patent has been applied by Yuliang Zheng and/or Jennifer Seberry in relation to the data formats for authenticated public key encryption covered by the following publications

  1. Zheng and J. Seberry, "Practical approaches to attaining security against a daptively chosen ciphertext attacks", Advances in Cryptology -- Crypto'92, Lectu re Notes in Computer Science, Vol. 740, pp. 292-304, Springer-Verlag, 1993.

Thanks for your fax message dated 20 March 1998. There have been no changes since my last letter dated 11 November 1996 regarding the patenting status of authenticated encryption techniques covered by the following publications

  1. Zheng and J. Seberry, "Practical approaches to attaining security against adaptively chosen ciphertext attacks", Advances in Cryptology -- Crypto'92, Lecture Notes in Computer Science, Vol. 740, pp. 292-304, Springer-Verlag, 1993.
  2. Zheng and J. Seberry, "Immunizing public key cryptosystems against chosen ciphertext attacks", IEEE Journal on selected areas in communications, 11 (5), 1993, 715-724.

I am not aware of any trademark coverage in relation to names of techniques to be used in the proposed standard.
