IEEE P1363 Study Group for Future Public-Key Cryptography Standards Thursday, August 24, 2000 Flying A Studio meeting room, University Center, UCSB, Santa Barbara, CA/ MEETING SUMMARY * Our sponsor has extended the lifetime of the study group to March 2001. * The deadline for PARs is October 27th. * Discussed a PAR for P1363.1, lattice-based techniques in public-key cryptography, and approved the PAR with certain amendments. Singer will implement the amendments and submit the PAR. * Discussed a PAR for P1363.2, password-based techniques, and approved the PAR with certain amendments. This PAR introduces the concept of a Protocol (which uses the output of one scheme as the input to another), which may lead to new issues with the security model. Jablon will implement the amendments and Singer will submit the PAR. * Discussed the registry concept again. It requires two documents: one describing the registry concept, one specifying the format of submissions. There are still several issues to be talked through, such as how to map relations between schemes, how to motivate people to work on registry documents, who will have access to the registry, and whether its scope wil be broader than existing P1363 documents. Singer and Stern will assemble further study material and Singer will pursue some of the issues with IEEE.
