New Business 5. Review of Action Items 6. Adjournment ---- 0. Introductions Chair Taka Fujimori briefly explained the history of p1394b Long-haul Low Cost (S100) Task Group. 1. Review of Minutes The minutes of S100 TG Honolulu meeting Aug 7 is not yet issued by the secretary. Approval of the minutes is delayed to the next S100 TG meeting. 2. 1394b August Meeting Report Taka Fujimori reported the p1394b Honolulu meeting August 6-8 as: a. Draft 0.04 issued, S800-S1600(S3200) 4.5m. with enhanced 1394STP copper cable/connector. 50/125um GI glass fiber is in focus by S800 PMD TG b. POF(Plastic Optical Fiber) Draft 0.01(S100-200) submitted to S100 TG. Both POF and HPCF are included. c. Modified 8B10B was selected for all speeds. Inoue-san asked whether it is possible to discuss 4B5B again in p1394b meeting. Taka answered it may be pretty difficult unless thorough study on both modified 8B10B and 4B5B codes is done and discovers new good reasons. Yoshida-san raised that 4B5B eases implementation of 1394Long at S100/200 over UTP and POF. Yes, this point was enphasized in the Hololulu meeting thus makes it possible to satisfy schedules of DAVIC, DVB and VESA. However those good points were disregarded because 1394b group voted for the same code for Fiber Channel and gigabit Ethernet and Long-haul Low Cost(S100) people seemed a minority(10-20%). 3. Action Items 3.1 PMD GI-POF Nakanura-san re-presented the possibility of Graded Index POF which was presented in the Honolulu meeting. Some interesting points are: 1. The cost of POF can be reduced to one hundreds if the volume rises 1000 times. 2. Low-NA GI-POF, called ESKAGIGA, is in production since 1995, giving us a performance of 1GHz@100m. 3. A new GI-POF fiber is under development targeting speeds of 400-800MHz@100m and a loss of << 20dB/100m. 4. Targets of POFs are: low-NA SI-POF S200 1997/End GI-POF S200-400 1997/End GI-POF 1GHz 1998/End 3.2 PMD GI-HPCF Sogabe-san also re-presented Hard Plastic Clad Silica Fiber which has core/clad diameters of 200/230um. SI-HPCF can achieve 100m S100@650nm(LED) and 100m S200@850nm. GI-HPCF can achieve 100m S200@650nm(LED) and 100m S400@850nm. High-NA HPCF allows coupling with LED and reduces bend loss. Crimp&Cleave connector eases assembling work. Morikura-san repeated his Honolulu presentation. 850nm LED and Si pin-PD with GI-HPCF are suitable for S100/S200 at up to 300m. They can also realize S100/S200/S400 at up to 100m. HPCF has wide bandwidth, low loss and easy to handle. HPCF can also run with 650nm LED which make it possible to share the same optical link with POF. Though HPCF is a bit costly compared to POF(very cheap), it compelements POF in terms of distance(100m). 3.3 PMD POF S200 & follow-up Yamazaki-san explained the first POF/HPCF PMD draft submitted to Honolulu S100 TG meeting this August. It addresses both POF(50m) and HPCF(100m) at upto S200 with a single optical Link of 650nm. He said that this spec was extended from ATM Forum's POF/HPCF PMD of 155Mbps spec. The optical power budget is optimized to accomodate both POF and HPCF at S100/200. However there's no power budget left for POF adapters at S200@50m while maintaining suggested error rate of 10^-12. As no one had expressed objections with this proposed draft since last Honolulu meeting, this draft was unanimously accepted as a POF/HPCF PMD working draft of S100 TG. Yamazaki-san also suggested to create a POF/HPCF PMD sub task group within S100 TG to expedite the work of POF/HPCF among experts. The group agreed to make a new POF/HPCF PMD subTG. 4. New Business No new work item is raised. 5. Review of Action Items No action items remain so far, since the 1394b addresses the coding scheme and POF/HPCF PMD subTG treats POF and HPCF issues. Next meeting will be called when POF/HPCF PMD subTG comes up with a new fruit. 6. Adjournment The meeting adjourned around 15:30. ============================================================================= Attendees: Makoto Anno Mitsubishi +81-3-3452-4941 anno@trc.mew.co.jp Electric Works Taka Fujimori Sony +81-3-5488-6353 fujimori@arch.sony.co.jp Masashi Oguchi Mitsubishi +81-45-224-2748 oguchi@cd.lmt.melco.co.jp Electric Toshio Ohno AMP Japan +81-44-844-8077 ohno.Toshio@amp.com Sumihiro Okawa Sony +81-466-30-4050 okawa@sm.sony.co.jp Atsushi Otsuka HPJ +81-3-3335-9154 atsushi_otsuka@om.jpn.hp.com Michihiko Sakurai Sony +81-3-5448-5362 sakurai@sslab.sony.co.jp Satoshi Takahashi Mitsubishi +81-3-3245-8746 takahashi_sa@mrc.co.jp Rayon Kenji Watanabe Sony +81-3-5448-5362 nabeken@sslab.sony.co.jp Yoshio Inagaki Toshiba +81-425-85-3295 inagaki@cns.hino.toshiba.co.jp Tatsuo Inoue Arch Tech +81-3-5545-7813 inoue@ba2.so-net,or.jp Toshihiro Kageyama Mitsubishi +81-45-825-5795 kage@yh.mtcs.co.jp Electric Masakazu Kawamoto Fujitsu Ltd. +81-44-754-2278 kamo@file.cs.fujitsu.co.jp Shigeru Kobayashi AMP Technology +81-44-813-9793 skobayas@amp.com Japan Akihiro Miyachi Molex Japan +81-462-65-2327 amiyachi@molex.com Susumu Morikura Panasonic +81-6-906-4876 morikura@isl.mei.co.jp Kazuki Nakamura Mitsubishi +81-8275-3-5320 kazuki-n@mars.dtinet.or.jp Rayon Masashi Seto Molex Japan +81-462-61-4500 mseto@molex.com Kazuki Sogabe Sumitomo +81-6-466-5539 dw750134@jnet.sei.co.jp Electric Shinichi Takagi AMP Japan +81-44-900-5012 stakagi@amp.com Hiroshi Takizuka Sony +81-466-30-4050 takizuka@sm.sony.co.jp Shinichi Teshima Asahi Chemical +81-3-3507-2461 a6908136@ut.asahi-kasei.co.jp Tetsuya Yamamoto Toray +81-52-521-3131 Tetsuya-Yamamoto2@nts.toray.co.jp Shuntaro Yamazaki NEC +81-44-856-2082 yamazaki@optsys.cl.nec.co.jp Atsushi Yoshida Hitachi +81-423-25-1711 yosidaat@hitachi-mc.co.jp Microcomputer System --- Taka H.
