Hi Everyone, IEEE-SA just approved the start of the P1619.2 Sponsor Ballot. If you're in the ballot pool, you should have received a message similar to the one below: This ballot closes on Saturday Sept 19, 2009. Cheers, -Matt -------- Original Message --------
You have new myProject notifications - please log onto https://development.standards.ieee.org/my-site to read them. ----Message Boundary---- To: undisclosed-recipients:; Cc: "C Project Staff Liaison" <m.kipness@xxxxxxxx> Subject: Sponsor Ballot Opening, P1619.2 Dear IEEE P1619.2 Balloting Group Member: This e-mail is to advise you of the opening of the IEEE Standards Sponsor Ballot for: P1619.2 Title: Standard for Wide-Block Encryption for Shared Storage Media Scope: This standard specifies an architecture for encryption of data in random access storage devices, oriented towards applications which benefit from wide encryption-block sizes of 512 bytes and above. Purpose: This standard specifies an architecture for media security and enabling components. Wide encryption blocks are well suited to environments where the attacker has repeated access to cryptographic communication or ciphertext, or is able to perform traffic analysis of data access patterns. The standard is oriented towards fixed-size encryption blocks without data expansion, but anticipates an optional data expansion mode to resist attacks involving data tampering. ***** IMPORTANT ***** This is a New Ballot. BALLOT OPENS: 20-Aug-2009 BALLOT CLOSES: 19-Sep-2009. No votes and/or comments will be accepted after 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on the close date. Make sure you review the document, cast your vote, and submit your comments before the closing date/time. ***** ACCESS THE DOCUMENT, SUBMIT YOUR VOTE, AND SUBMIT YOUR COMMENTS ***** Go directly to: https://development.standards.ieee.org/my-site/ballot-activity (Note: You may be prompted for your password if not already logged in). Or, follow this process: 1. Log onto myProject; click the link for Go to: myBallot. 2. Click the link for "Manage myBallot Activity." (Note: Sponsor/Ballot Designee must first click myBallot Home (Voter) in order to view Manage myBallot Activity). 3. Locate P1619.2. 4. Click on the DRAFT# to open the draft; click on the drop-down box to submit your vote; click on the comments link to submit your comments. Comments MUST be submitted in plain text using one of the following formats available in myBallot: (a) single comment submittal (i.e, entering one comment at a time into a comment field, with an attachment mechanism for files in any format); or (b) multiple comment submittal (i.e., entering comments onto a spreadsheet template provided in either XLS, XML or CSV format, for upload into myBallot). Attempting to submit comments into myBallot through any other format will result in an error message and your upload will not be accepted. For best results, please review the associated help pages thoroughly before proceeding. Note: This draft standard is posted for your review and for balloting purposes only. ***** MESSAGE FROM THE WORKING GROUP CHAIR ***** The P1619.2 standard is the third in the IEEE 1619 series of cryptographic standards, focused on protecting the confidentiality of data on storage devices (e.g., hard disks and tape drives). P1619.2 describes two wide-block encryption modes of the AES block cipher: EME2 and XCB. These modes both perform encryption and decryption of large blocks (like 512-byte hard disk sectors) such that a modification of the ciphertext results in a complete corruption of the entire block during decryption. ***** QUESTIONS ***** If you should have any questions about this document, please contact: James Hughes jphughes@xxxxxxx or : ***** myProject QUESTIONS ***** For system questions, please go to the Help pages; or contact your staff liaison or the IEEE-SA Balloting Center at myBallot@xxxxxxxx NOTE: To show our appreciation of your effort, the names of all voters will be listed in the front matter of the published standard. Your vote and your contact information will *not* be included. |
