IEEE P1680 Family of Standards
for Environmental Assessment of Electronic Products
This Family of Standards provides clear and consistent environmental
performance criteria for the design of electronic products thereby
providing an opportunity to secure market recognition for efforts to
reduce the environmental impact of electronic products. This Family of
Standards is intended to provide a tool for government, institutional,
corporate and consumer purchasers. Product manufacturers may use this
tool to earn recognition in these markets, recognizing that certain
criteria may not be applicable to all types of purchasers. Applicability
will be specified in each individual standard.
The environmental performance criteria of the IEEE 1680
Family of Standards are intended to define a measure of environmental
leadership in: the design and manufacture of electronic products; the
delivery of specified services that are associated with the sale of the
product; and in associated corporate performance characteristics.
IEEE
Computer Society’s Environmental Assessment Standards Committee (EASC) is the
Sponsor for the IEEE 1680 Family of Standards for Electronic
Products.

Standards Being Revised under
IEEE 1680
The
existing IEEE 1680.1 Standard for Environmental Assessment of Personal
Computer Products, Including Notebook Personal Computers, Desktop
Personal Computers, and Personal Computer Displays is currently being
updated. During the fall of 2011 and into 2012, Study Groups worked
to develop preliminary material to assist in the launch of the 1680.1
Standard update. In late 2012 or early 2013, a Working Group will
be convened for the update of the 1680.1 Standard.
For more information
on the update of the 1680.1 Standard, or to join the email information
list, please contact the
