Frédéric,

I'm not sure about the actual timing, but I always knew the
8087 as the "IEEE chip."  It is not uncommon for vendors to
implement the standard before it is actually official.  They
run the risk of the standard being changed a little, but
they have the advantage of a conforming product right away.

Does anyone care to try out the "decorated intervals" proposal?
(For instance, it might be built on top of INTLAB.)

Or did it? My understanding was that Intel already had a conforming chip
(i8087?) before the standard was even voted thanks to Kahan's early work.
