Subject: [IEEE P1901] Dresden Travel Notes

Greeting Dresden Attendees.

Hunter and I scouted out the meeting facilities yesterday and have some observations we hope helps you navigate.   David, has some photos and may have other comments to send.

1 - The tram is the easy way to get to the meeting, especially given the weather.  Tram #3 or #8 will get you there and back.  [We took a different number that was going down the street and it still got us there.  I am not sure why.]

2 - Get on the tram near the IEEE hotel (ask the front desk to save you time) (Walpurgis Str.?).  You can also get to the Haupt-bahnhof train station just down the street  if you need to purchase a ticket.  It might be worth walking back to the hotel stop to get on the tram rather than walking toward the meeting room to the next stop.   Tickets can be purchased in a kiosk at the Haupt-bahnhof  station, near the tracks.  I purchased a week pass at the airport info. desk for 18 eu.   I don't know the other costs.

3- Exit at the Nurnberger PL stop.  The meeting building is directly across the street from the tram stop.

4- If you walk, be careful of crossing the tracks.  There are lights to tell you a tram is coming but they are quiet.

5- It takes 20-30 minutes total to walk it uphill to the meeting building.  The traffic lights took about as much time as the walking.

6- When you return to the hotel, there is a stop on the meeting building side of the street. Wait there near the shelter and cross the street to the tram loading sidewalk when the train approaches.

If you are staying in the Westin, take bus #8 from in front and to the right (facing away) form the hotel.

Take a MAP.

I didn't see any places to eat along the way so you might want to read the meeting notice again and determine if you have enough euros for a lunch ticket at the University.
