[2600] Various devices' claim to P2600 PP conformance

All,

Hardcopy devices ranges from scanner, printer, fax machine,..., to MFDs.  This is how we define the TOE for the PPs.  Therefore, not every TOE can claim conformance to all SFRs in the PPs we have written so far.  Also, not every device has to deal with the threats listed in the PPs.  For example, a scanner should not have to address copy/print related threats; a printer or a MFD without fax component should not have to address "fax" related threats.  Consequently, a scanner or a printer or a MFD that does not have a fax component/function needs not to claim conformance to fax related SFRs in the PP selected for a particular environment.

I think one way to address this issue is to clearly state the common set of SFRs that all devices must conform, and the set of SFRs that must be conformed by each specific type of device/function in the Conformance Clause.  Right now I only see very small set of threats not belonging to scanner, and another very small set not belonging to devices without fax.

I don't remember whether we discussed this in the last P2600 meeting.  Please let's discuss your opinions/ suggestions.

Thanks,
-Nancy
