As I recall, at the January '03 meeting, we agreed to adopt the format proposals in the reference, but with one minor modification.

The reference, Table 3, note 1, states that e = 191, 767, and 12287 are invalid for their respective formats. This is in keeping with the principle that the reciprocation operation should have maximum opportunity of success without inducing overflow or underflow.

I believe the subcommittee considered this matter, and determined that these values of e should nonetheless be considered as valid, and that, therefore the present note 1 should be deleted. Does anyone else recall this, or is it a figment of my imagination?
