ISO standardization of interval arithmetic in C++
Dear members of IEEE754R,
I apologize in advance for this off-topic mail.
We think that the topic may be of interest to some of the
subscribers of this list, and we would appreciate to
benefit from your expertise, so here it is.
Herve Bronnimann, Guillaume Melquiond and myself
(authors of the Boost.Interval library, www.boost.org)
are proposing to add interval arithmetic to the
ISO C++ Standard.
This work has several facets :
- floating point semantic aspects, close to the topic
of this list,
- C++ library design aspects, which require a different
kind of expertise,
- expertise in all kinds of interval arithmetic usage.
We have already issued an initial version of the proposal,
which you can find here :
http://www-sop.inria.fr/geometrica/team/Sylvain.Pion/cxx/
This version already received a lot of comments, and we
will prepare a revision to integrate these comments.
We invite interested people to join a mailing-list that
we have just created to discuss this project :
http://compgeom.poly.edu/mailman/listinfo/std-interval
The subscription process should take very little time.
The list is open and (for now) unmoderated.
In addition, please feel free to forward this announcement
to anyone you think may be interested in the discussion.
Best regards,
--
Sylvain Pion, Herve Bronnimann, Guillaume Melquiond.
