RE: Amendment to motion addressing the need for consistency in distinguishing between numbers and NaNs



I agree with the concern on the use of the word "value".
My preference is to use something with less specificity,
such as "item", but could probably cope with "datum".

Actually referring to the possible contents of a floating-point variable
as "items" makes a lot of sense because it has no implication of meaning
that might attach to "value" or "datum."    So the hierarchy

FP Item
 NaN
 Number
  Infinity
  Finite Number

makes sense to me.    But drafting a motion is a hazardous undertaking so
late in the game.
