Er, yes - I am beginning to think too much in POSIX terms :-(

The definition of what that entity is is decidedly non-trivial,
and may not correspond to a POSIX process or (as Michel says) any
single language environment.

And I quite agree with the other points he has made.  This is a
genuinely hard problem.
