Re: Those "closed door" BRC meetings...

BTW, I appreciate the continuing efforts by committee members to
discuss topics on the email lists, I was just grumbling about how
the procedures made it difficult for me to comment.

I don't believe this is accurate. The BRC meetings are open
and anyone can attend (although you are not necessarily granted
the right to speak at all times, as is true in town meetings).

Right. Unfortunately the document being discussed isn't publicly
available, as far as I can tell. Not a problem initially, but
as the document diverges from the last public one either technically
or editorially it makes it difficult, because...

...not having access to the document, I don't see how I can possibly
make an informed "rogue comment" (some might think my emails are
a bit rogue-like though! - sorry about any ruffled feathers).

And not being local, dropping in just isn't an option - it's far
too time-consuming.

These folks are doing a thankless task and (I believe) are
carefully documenting there conclusions in an admireable attempt
to achieve consensus.

I'm sure they are doing great work too. Seriously, as a member of
a standards committee myself I quite appreciate the difficulties
and wasn't meaning to cast nasturtiums on the members of the BRC.

Unfortunately I don't have the time or other resources to do
much more than send email comments.

Cheers,
