What makes sense to one party is not what makes sense to another.  That's 
why a compromise is often necessary.  ...

Only if one or both are being irrational!  Note that I am distinguishing
"makes sense" from "is the right decision".

I am prepared to accept someone else's idea of desirability, provided
that it is rational and consistent enough to work with (i.e. "makes
sense"), whether I think it is the right way to proceed or not.  What
I object to is proposals that are irrational and inconsistent, even
using their authors' own criteria of desirability (i.e. "make no kind
of sense").
