wpan/ Montreal Meeting

All---

The latest and greatest is now available on the web site
http://grouper.ieee.org/groups/802/15/.

Thanks to your spirited involvement, it was quite a successful kick-off
meeting. Over 60 people attended the meeting. 39 achieved voting status. A
list is attached to the minutes. The provisional officers were elected for
the balance of the term and approved by the 802 Executive Committee. We
formed a Study Group, headed by Steve Shellhammer, to make a recommendation
on how to best deal with coexistence and draft a PAR if appropriate, a
Marketing Committee, headed by Bruce Kraemer, to advise on how to best
position our activities and to provide insight on what the market really
wants, and we formed a Task Group, headed by Ian Gifford, to begin the work
of rapidly developing our first draft standard. We have an official set of
rules and a motivated group of people to get the job done. A lot more
detail can be found in the meeting minutes on the site.

The next full Working Group meeting is in Santa Rosa, CA, Sept 13-17,
although there will be a lot of between meeting activity via email and
teleconference organized by our various group heads. As is our stated
practice, will be meeting jointly with 802.11 in Santa Rosa in order to
facilitate and maintain a close working relationship. A detailed agenda for
the Sept meeting will be available on the site by Aug 1.

Please try to attend. This is an important meeting as we will be working
aggressively on a Draft Standard based on the Bluetooth submission, and,
more than likely entertaining a Call for Interest for high and low end
versions of WPANs. We also plan on making a lot of headway on our
coexistence and marketing activities. The meeting Venue is on the site.
This area is popular at this time of year so please make your plans now.

Again, thanks for your contributions and active involvement in Montreal.
Don't hesitate to contact me if you have questions or comments. See you
all in Santa Rosa.

Chair, 802.15
