[802.15_GENERAL] RFID Study Group Call For Contributions and Interest

The IEEE 802.15 RFID Study Group has made Calls for Contribution in the
past to identify
wireless RFID, sensor, and other RFID type application and technology
issues which the IEEE
802 standards organization should address during the development of a
new wireless MAC
and PHY standard.

In order to gather information for the drafting of IEEE PAR and 5
Criteria documents, the IEEE
802.15 RFID Study Group is calling once again for contributions to be
made at the IEEE 802.15
RFID SG meetings during the week of May 12-16, 2008 in Jacksonville,
Florida.

Please refer to the IEEE 802.15 web pages referenced below for further
information.

Please Note:

Please keep in mind that an IEEE 802 Study Group lives for four months
at a time.

The IEEE 802.15 RFID Study Group was formed in November of 2007, and
held RFID SG meeting
Sessions in both January and March of 08.

During these meetings this RFID SG received NO contributions from the
RFID industry or interested
individuals even though multiple call for contributions were released.
We must assume that there is no interest if contributions are not
submitted and presented during
meetings.

During the March 08 session I requested an extension of the IEEE 802.15
RFID Study Group through
the IEEE 802.15 Working Group Chair, Bob Heile, and the RFID SG received
another four months of life.

This means that unless someone from the RFID industry or other
individuals show interest through
the submission of contributions to the IEEE 802.15 RFID Study Group by
the end of the July 08 IEEE
802 meetings, then this RFID Study Group and your opportunity to guide
the IEEE 802 in the formation
of a future RFID wireless standard may disappear for an unknown period
of time.

If you have a concern that this RFID Study Group is meeting under the
auspice of IEEE 802.15 WG,
please take note that once PAR and 5 Criteria documents are written to
set the direction of a
Task Group, it then becomes the IEEE 802 Executive Committee's
prerogative to assign the PAR where
ever they believe it belongs, which may mean assignment to another
Working Group like IEEE 802.11,
or even the formation of a new Working Group within IEEE 802.

No IEEE 802 attendees have made contributions in this RFID Study Group's
meetings since it was formed.

Therefore this Study Group could cease to exist at the end of the July
2008 meeting.

If you, or someone you know, is interested but is holding back from
submitting a contribution for some
reason, please don't hold back any longer.

Sincerely,
Mike McInnis
IEEE 802.15 RFID SG Chair
