Thanks Art - Wired always does have a flair for the dramatic :-)
As we think about 15.4f, it is important to distinguish between passive and active tags. The 10 use cases cited in the article (amongst the many thousands of uses cases active today) are a mixture of active and passive RFID. The list also includes more than one GPS application, and GPS really cannot be thought of as an RFID technology since it does not conform to even the most basic definition of RFID: a tag which can identify itself over a wireless RF link.
This is an interesting list, and serves well as a reminder that we must stay focused in 4f, and not try to recreate either passive tags, or GPS (or barcodes, or LORAN-C or, or Wi-Fi, or 15.4a or...).

make the appropriate time in the 802.15.4f meeting agenda to listen to
submissions. It is hoped that presenters will be available to present
their submissions at the 802.15 Plenary meeting to be held in Vancouver,
BC, 8-13 March 2009.
