Re: [802.3_100GCU] meeting notes from EEE consensus meeting 20120816

EEE people…

It seems that we don’t have a dedicated ad-hoc area & it’s really not worth creating one just for this so I will email it directly to anyone who requests it.

Of course, the final version, with the comment references, will be posted to the meeting presentation space as normal.

Thanks, everyone for your help.

Hugh.

Mike & other EEE people,

I have updated the presentation following comments during the call. Unfortunately the change of background has swollen the .pdf size beyond the limits of the mailer, so I will have to ask Mike to post it in the ad-hoc area. I will prepare comments to match this presentation & submit them shortly. Please feel free to continue the discussion.

Other things that need special attention in this draft are the many TBDs for the parameters in the EEE sections.

Many thanks for all of your input.

Hugh.

EEE for P802.3bj consensus call 2012-08-16

Meeting began at 8:10 AM PDT

Agenda:

  • Review “EEE in 40/100G PMA” by Hugh Barrass
  • Discuss next steps

Mike opened the meeting, reviewing the agenda and asked for changes to it.  There were none.
Hugh presented “EEE in 40/100G PMA”

Discussion:

Seems necessary to open clause 74, Adam was hoping not to, but is willing to as it appears unavoidable.

Discussion as to whether or not scrambler bypass is necessary or use RAMs

Clarification:

  • can’t have fast wake and “normal” EEE enabled simultaneously
  • Couldn’t find energy detect in clause 72 - energy detect doesn’t include anything from the PMA, it’s just passed through.  Since this isn’t relevant for fast wake, likely not to be an issue

Action Items:

Hugh will make modifications based on feedback and recirculate the slides prior to submitting comments on D1.1.

Participants will review changes and provide feedback prior to end of comment cycle.

Adam and Hugh to have a call to discuss Clause 91 - is everything there that needs to be regarding EEE?

Meeting ended at 9:03 AM PDT

Attendees:

Hugh Barrass
Mike Bennett
Piews Dawe
Adam Healey
Alex Umnov
Matt Brown
