[8023-10GEPON] July meeting report



Dear all,

This is a short report of the July 10GEPON study group meeting. All meeting
materials, with the exception of minutes, are posted
(http://www.ieee802.org/3/10GEPON_study/public/july06/index.html). Minutes
will be posted next week.


We had a very busy meeting - we reviewed 20 presentations and had close to
90 people in attendance.

At the closing Plenary Session, IEEE 802.3 working group has approved 10G
PAR and 5 Criteria for 10G EPON.  Here are the voting results among 802.3
members:

Objectives:  		YES:46 NO:0 ABSTAIN:7
Broad Market Potential:	YES:45 NO:1 ABSTAIN:9
Compatibility: 		YES:47 NO:0 ABSTAIN:4
Distinct Identity:	YES:49 NO:1 ABSTAIN:5
Technical Feasibility:	YES:52 NO:1 ABSTAIN:6
Economic Feasibility:	YES:42 NO:4 ABSTAIN:11
PAR:				YES:45 NO:1 ABSTAIN:9


Today, the LMSC executive committee, with a vote 15:0 approved our PAR and 5
Criteria and authorized submission of these documents to New Standards
Committee (NeSCom). 

The current schedule is for Nescom to review these documents on Sep 14th and
for Standards board to do this on Sep 15th. If both NeSCom and Standards
Board approve our documents according to the above schedule, at our
September meeting we will meet as a task force. The September meeting will
be on the week of September 18th, but a venue has not been finalized yet.
