Re: [8023-10GEPON] [Channel Link Model] Version 2.2 of the Channel Link Model Spreadsheet

Frank C.,
the ongoing discussions (we saw them for some time on the reflector) did not bring us any closer to this target.
Do You have any way on Your mind that could bring us closer to the goal of either aligning the model with the 802.3ae world definitions as You suggest or renaming them ?
Thanks

Marek/Frank;

Its really time to re-tweak the spreadsheet.

My comment is as such parameters like TDP, stress sens etc should be renamed as they has been already defined and widely adopted by 802.3ae world, sounds to me which are interpreted differently in this spreadsheet.

Dear Frank,
thank You for the feedback. It seem that indeed that are few changes in the diagram.
I will investigate the topic in more detail over the weekend and prepare an upgraded version of the spreadsheet (for now only to see how many changes need to be introduced).
I would like to know also the opinion of other TF members as to what needs to be done about the proposed changes.

Dear All,

I have an observation.  Since the IEEE values are the normative ones, it seems more correct to make the IEEE values drive the ITU values, rather than the current situation where the ITU values are the entry parameters and the IEEE are derived from the ITU values.

I’ve looked at it, and it seems that there are only two pairs of IEEE – ITU cells that need to be “reversed” in this way.

The attached diagram shows this, with the reversed arrows colored in blue.   At some point, we might want to incorporate this change in the sheet.  But, just to emphasize, this doesn’t change a single number that appears.  It is only the way that the numbers are calculated.

Just an observation…

Sincerely,

Frank Effenberger.

Dear all,

attached please find the updated version of the channel link model spreadsheet (v2.2) along with the slideshow to be presented at January meeting.

I would like to point Your attention to a new tab which was added in the spreadsheet i.e. "Model parameter definitions" - with the definitions of all the parameters used in the model along with the proposed indication whether the given parameter should be normative or informative. Note that the normative / informative allocation is tentative and subject to change should any discrepancies be noted.

Please do not hesitate to post Your comments on both the spreadsheet and the presentation itself.

I would like to thank all the participants of the channel link model ad hoc, who devoted their time to develop and extend the functionality of this tool.

Best wishes
