[8023-10GEPON] FW: access to 802.1AS draft for 802.3 (to consider whether EPON clause should be retained)

Dear 802.3av task force members:

Please, see the following e-mail below. The 802.1AS project, titled “Timing and Synchronization for Time-

Sensitive Applications in Bridged Local Area Networks” has a clause related to EPON (clause 13).

For lack of EPON experts at their meetings, the 802.3AS group is considering removing the said clause from the standard draft altogether.

If you are interested in participating in 802.1AS and/or becoming an editor for the EPON clause, please contact me.

Regards,

Glen

Subject: access to 802.1AS draft for 802.3 (to consider whether EPON clause should be retained)

Glen,

I spoke to you briefly last week on Thursday afternoon at the 802 meeting (at the suggestion of Bob Grow).  I mentioned that I am the editor of 802.1AS, and that there is currently a placeholder clause (Clause 13) that covers 802.1AS over 802.3 EPON.  The text of Clause 13 was originally supplied by David James, but needs to be made consistent with the rest of the 802.1AS draft (One of the editor's notes near the beginning of clause 13 outlines some of the items that need to be done to make it consistent).

The first editor's note at the beginning of Clause 13 says that an editor is needed for the clause, and that if an editor is not found the clause will be removed from the document.  As I mentioned to you, in an 802.1AS and/or AVB call, it was suggested that 802.3 be asked whether there is interest in keeping this in this version 802.1AS before removing the material (so far no one has expressed great interest in 802.1; presumably, someone who does express interested will be asked if they are willing to be editor for the clause).  You had said that as chair you could let the EPON group know about this, and I said that I would send you the information needed to access the latest draft (D2.0).  The link is:

Note that a TG ballot for D2.0 just completed, and comment resolution took place in the meeting last week.  The proposed comment resolution is in:

(Note that I am in the process of preparing the final resolution, based on the discussions and agreements last week.)

I also told you that it is fine if we can have an answer on this at the July meeting (I will leave Clause 13 as is until then).

Please let me know if additional information on 802.1AS is needed.

Thanks.

Best regards,

Geoff
