Re: [8023-10GEPON] power saving Ad-hoc

Dear Marek,

Oh, I am very sorry (and thank you for your confirmation).

These hot and humid days in Japan might wear me down.
So I will go home early today...

Best regards,
Ken-Ichi

Dear Suzuki-san, Indeed You're correct. 100BASE-T for GPON and EPON 1000BASE-T for 10G-EPON Please update the table as necessary. PS. I am not Jeff :)

Dear Jeff,

Thanks for your effort.
I'd like to confirm the definitions of "UNI-Ethernet" in your table.
I think you means UNI-Ethernet's for G-PON and EPON as 100BASE-TX and "UNI-Ethernet" for 10G-EPON as 1000BASE-T. Is that right?

Best regards,
Ken-Ichi

Dear Otaka-san, As a kick-start of the discussion, I collected some information from the data sheets I have access to. Company names are obviously excluded from the file. I managed to collect 1 GPON class ONU power consumption figures, 2 more restricted sets for EPON and two estimated power consumption sets for 10/1GEPON class system. It would be nice if this document gets extended with time, with people introducing values they feel comfortable with and which can be confirmed. Please note that the values I included in the table are for discrete component systems and are worst-case ones. SoC designs can have much power consumption figures (I saw data sheets for 2 W ONU units, though it is hard to estimate consumption of individual ONU elements in such a case.) Any comments, please let me know. regards

Subject: [8023-10GEPON] power saving Ad-hoc

Dear all,

This is Akihiro Otaka.
As announced by the chair, we formed the power-saving
ad-hoc in the July meeting.
If you are interested in this ad-hoc, please contact
me.

Our objectives are following;
1) Quantify typical power consumption of various
  units/functions in ONU and OLT.
2) Propose solution(s) and quantify potential power
savings of each solution and cost impacts.
3) Quantify the impact on service delivery and QoS
  of various solutions.

I'd like to start with item (1),
to study what kind of power-saving (which part should
be power-saved) is effectve in the PON system.
And any contributions are appriciated.

Best regards,
Akihiro Otaka. (NTT)
