thank you for the comment, but the statement reads: "linear polarization is lost"
That war reported byDavid. It is not possible to detect a polarization with a single polarizer, in other words that there is no linear polarization left!
The explaination may be as follows (which was not discussed in detail in the telco):
The linear polarization of the launch is turned into circular polarization because of the birefringence (which is caused by the mechanical stress in the fiber) after some meter of fiber. This circular polarization will be existent in some modifications even over a long piece of fiber and therefore you can influence the signal on longer fiber pieces (That observation was already stated by David).
This result is similar to our observations. We tested transmission even with circular polarized launch and the result was that we see similar effects as with linear polarization. That fits completely with the explaination above.
