RE: Jitter Meeting

Tim,

Question: Can you confirm that the XAUI jitter spec has enough interest and
expertise
for a separate room.

Politically correct answer: Sorry, no. I have not been tracking the XAUI
team and do not know who will be in attendance. Ideally, there will be
enough of the key players to help resolve most of the open technical issues
for recommendation to 802.3ae in January so that we can keep our schedule.

Politically incorrect answer: Hey, I'm no baby sitter! Look, this much I do
know: if such expertise and interest doesn't exist, perhaps it is time to
remove XAUI (this snide comment is derived from the 5 criteria: broad market
potential (interest) and technical feasibility (expertise)).

My personal answer: I sure hope so. By meeting at the same venue as Fibre
Channel, we greatly increase the likelihood of having those members that
have the essential expertise. Also, I will be surprised if the XAUI and
10GBASE-LX4 jitter methodologies and specifications vary significantly.
There should be significant membership overlap here; more so than between
10GBASE-LX4 and any of the 10GBASE-Serial specifications.

Jonathon:

Can you confirm that the XAUI jitter spec has enough interest and expertise
for a separate room. My interest is only as XAUI jitter observer. Hate to
travel all
that way without the breakout.
