Roy,

The latency is typically on the order of several clock cycles but varies
depending on implementation. For example, combinatorial logic vs. gate array vs.
table lookup. In any case it is negligible compared to fiber latency and
approximately the same as for other block encoding methods (e.g. MB810, 4B/5B,
etc.) Scramblers are also similar in latency.
