Announcement of opening of P802.3ae Working Group Ballot

Dear IEEE P802.3ae Task Force Member:

If you are also an IEEE 802.3 Working Group member, this note is redundant with the one you received on the IEEE 802.3 reflector. You should refer solely to that memorandum.

If you are NOT an IEEE 802.3 Working Group member, read on.

This e-mail is to advise you of the opening of the IEEE 802.3 Working Group comment review for IEEE P802.3ae (10 Gigabit Ethernet), Draft 3.0 otherwise known as:

Information Technology - Local & Metropolitan Area Networks - Part 3: Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Detection (CSMA/CD) Access Method and Physical Layer Specifications - Media Access Control Parameters, Physical Layers and Management Parameters for 10 Gb/s Operation

The comment period opens on Friday, 30 March 2001 and closes on Saturday, 5 May 2001 at 12:00 midnight Pacific time.

A copy of this draft (and previous drafts) can be found on our password-protected website (URL):

The draft prints out as 476 paper pages. The download file in pdf is 4837K or 2627K in compressed form.

A significant portion of the text is shown as change instructions to the existing Standard. It is advised that you have a copy of the current Standard (IEEE Std. 802.3 2000 Edition or ISO/IEC 8802-3:2000) handy when you do your review.

You will need a copy of Adobe's Acrobat Reader (3.0 or higher) to view or print the draft. It is available for free downloading from Adobe at:

NOTE:

According to our traditional Working Group ballot process, the official ballot is only being circulated to voting members of the 802.3 Working Group.

The draft is also being circulated to those who have been participating in the standardization process who are not members of the Working Group in order to provide a wide review of the document and to solicit comments.

You should be aware that Technical-Required comments (TR) are not required to be tracked amongst non-Working Group members. But, out of courtesy to those who have helped to create this work, and those willing to review it, we will execute the TR and request sign-off of each and every TR during the May interim meeting. Even so, if a TR is entered by a non-Working Group member, and said person is not at attendance and readily available at the interim meeting to review the Task Force's response, we will not obligate the editors or staff of P802.3ae track down the commenter and obtain said sign-off.
