Re: [802.3_4PPOE] TBDs in D1.8

Hi Peter and all,

Vport_pse_diff was defined at no load. This is the only way possible to measure it correctly.

Therefore it is applicable from No load condition while when load increases, part of its effect on unbalance is compensated.

See more below.

Is there any text that qualifies or specifies  Vport_pse_diff as being applicable at any particular power load, e.g. Pclass or “any load”, etc?

Practically speaking, I believe this parameter is only important (or relevant) in a subset of cases where Pair-Pair unbalance is critical:

1)      Operating at higher power levels – for example >30W because we don’t care about Pair-Pair unbalance below 30W

Yair: It is possible to define the Vport_pse_diff applicability when operating over 4-pairs only.

Regarding power level: It is defined at no load. Only at no load conditions, Vport_pse_diff is equal to the internal PSE power supply pair to pair voltage difference.

In addition, some circuits may be affected from higher PSE Vdiff at very low load such detection and connection check.

2)      4-Pair Powering of Single Signature PD’s

Yair: See above. It covers it.

3)      Operating at power levels where Iport_2P may exceed Icon/2

Yair: See above. It covers it.

Hi folks,

We neglected to remove the open TBDs for D1.8 and we need to get rid of them to proceed to D2.0.
Thankfully there is only one that needs addressing.

I will file comment to resolve these, but want to do some consensus building first.

TBD no 1 (page 102, line 16)

Proposed resolution: remove "Test Setup TBD."

TBD no 2 (page 210, line 16-18)

These TBDs were put in at request of the WG chair and should stay until we are more nearer to completion.

Proposed resolution: None

TBD no 3 (page 218, line 16)

Idem to TBD no 2. No proposed action.
