Subject: [802.3_4PPOE] IEEE P802.3bt/D2.3 DTE Power via MDI over 4-Pair Working Group 3rd recirculation ballot

Dear Task Force Participants,

With this e-mail, I'd like to announce the start of the IEEE P802.3bt/D2.3 DTE Power via MDI over 4-Pair Working Group 3rd recirculation ballot.

Open date: Thursday 2nd February 2017

Close date: Sunday 26th February 2017 23:59 AOE

As stated in the attached announcement, the ballot group for this draft is the IEEE 802.3 voting membership as of Friday 29th July 2016. All comments received before the close of ballot will be considered, the one limitation however is that if you are not a member of the balloting group, and therefore cannot cast a ballot, you cannot designate comments as TR or ER since you cannot cast a Disapprove ballot.

Best regards,

Chad Jones

Chair, IEEE P802.3bt DTE Power via MDI over 4-Pair Task Force

--- Begin Message ---
Dear Colleagues,

This is the announcement of the electronic IEEE 802.3 Working Group 3rd recirculation ballot on the Amendment IEEE P802.3bt DTE Power via MDI over 4-Pair. Remember that voting, as well as attendance, is a requirement to maintain your IEEE 802.3 member (voter) status <http://ieee802.org/3/rules/member.html#DOT3>. Instructions for accessing the draft, casting your ballot and submitting comments follow this announcement. Please review the commenting instructions below to ensure you are using the most up to date tools.

The ballot group for this draft is the IEEE 802.3 voting membership as of Friday 29th July 2016.

Because this is a recirculation ballot, YOU ONLY NEED TO CAST A BALLOT IF YOU WISH TO CHANGE YOUR VOTE FROM THAT WHICH WAS RECORDED ON THE INITIAL BALLOT OR LAST RECIRCULATION. If you voted previously and your vote has not changed, the last ballot cast will be carried over to this ballot and you do not need to cast a new ballot.

BALLOT SCOPE:
At its January 2017 interim meeting the IEEE P802.3bt Task Force decided to create a new clause rather than modify Clause 33. IEEE P802.3bt/D2.3 therefore contains a new clause, Clause 145, for the Type 3 and Type 4 specification, with Clause 33 reverting back to its IEEE Std 802.3-2015 version. It is hoped that this change will help resolve some unsatisfied negative comments directed toward the previous approach.

As a result the scope of the ballot is the complete IEEE P802.3bt draft.

CRITERIA FOR STANDARDS DEVELOPMENT:
One of the responsibilities as a balloter is to ensure that draft is consistent with the criteria for standards development (CSD) responses, for this project grandfarthered five criteria (5C) responses, which are available at <https://mentor.ieee.org/802-ec/dcn/16/ec-16-0058-00-ACSD-802-3bt.pdf>. An Approve vote indicates your agreement that the draft is consistent with the CSD responses.

BALLOT OPEN:
Thursday 2nd February 2017

BALLOT CLOSE:
Sunday 26th February 2017 23:59 AOE

The Project Authorization Request for this Amendment is available at <http://ieee802.org/3/bt/P802d3bt_PAR.pdf> and includes the following:

TITLE:
Standard for Ethernet Amendment: Physical Layer and Management Parameters for DTE Power via MDI over 4-Pair

SCOPE OF PROJECT:
The scope of this project is to augment the capabilities of the IEEE Std 802.3 standard with 4-pair power and associated power management information. The project will augment the methodology for the provision of power via balanced cabling to connected Data Terminal Equipment with 802.3 interfaces. Optional augmented power limit will be made available for certain structured cabling systems. Improvements introduced for 4-pair systems, excluding raising the power limit, are optionally enabled for 2-pair systems. Compatibility with existing equipment will be maintained.

NEED FOR THE PROJECT:
Since the publication of IEEE Std 802.3at-2009, significant market demand has emerged for more efficient power delivery and for applications with power levels greater than those defined in the standard. Example applications include thin clients, multi-radio wireless access points, pan / tilt / zoom cameras, digital signage, building automation, industrial sensors / actuators etc.
Thank you for your participation in this ballot and careful review of the draft.
