Thanks David , I think I understand better now what you were intending. My inclination is now to make the change. I'm going to look at the draft again tomorrow to confirm.

Hi Dave,

I'd like to comment on the proposed response to my comment #110. I totally agree with the statement in the response that 'PMA_LINK.indication is defined under 113.2.1.2, as it communicates as well to the technology independent interface.'. My Comment however is not in relation to technology independent interface and its definition in subclause 113.2.1 and its subclauses including 113.2.1.2.

Instead my comment is in relation to the PMA service interface defined in subclause 113.2.2 and its subclauses. PMA_LINK.indication is not defined as part of that interface, nor is it shown connecting the PMA to the PCS in Figure 113-4 '25GBASE-T and 40GBASE-T service interfaces'. Further, as noted in my comment #115, the 'link_status' parameter communicated by this primitive is not used by the PCS.

Based the above I suggest that (1) 'link_status' should not be shown crossing the 'PMA service interface' and connecting to the PCS Transmit and Transmit Control in figure 113-3 'Function block diagram', it should only be shown connecting to the technology independent interface; (2) 'link_status' should not be shown in Figure 113-5 'PCS reference diagram'; (3) 'link_status' should not be shown crossing the 'PMA service interface' in figure 113-23 'PMA reference diagram' and should only be shown connecting to the technology independent interface; and (4) the variable definition for 'link_status' in subclause 113.4.5.1 'State diagram variables' to read 'The link_status parameter set by PMA Link Monitor state diagram and communicated through the PMA_LINK.indicate primitive.'.

My apologies if I didn't make this clear in my comment.

Best regards,
 David

Dear Colleagues,
Proposed comment responses for P802.3bq D2.3 and P802.3bz D1.1 are now posted.
For both projects our editorial team has created an "EZ Bucket" of comments that we intend to approve with a single motion (one for each project).
Please review the EZ bucket files. If you would like your comment removed from the EZ bucket and discussed separately, please notify me and our Chief Editor, George Zimmerman.

P802.3bz comments: http://www.ieee802.org/3/bz/comments/index.html

Many thanks to the reviewers and to our editorial team for providing proposed responses.
