[802.3_10SPE] adhoc area website update AND progressing the work

All – the adhoc area of our website has been updated with the minutes from today.


I want to reiterate my call for people to progress the work via the reflector.  We have 1 ad hoc session left before the September interim.  It is important that we come out of the September interim with a reasonable strawman for the short reach PHY, and how we will address additional use cases.  In order to do that, we need work on:

  • Link segment transmission parameters for:
    • Candidate 15m point-to-point link segments
    • Candidate Multidrop link segments
    • Any additional use cases, per the NEA ad hoc work – this will help us determine what, if any, PAR changes we may propose.
  • Continue work on PHY discussions for short-reach and point to multipoint (thank you Piergiorgio for picking this up)
    • Please express any concerns or questions on the reflector – any ‘media access’ in the PHY (buffering or otherwise) will require us to explain to dot-3 how we fit within the 802.3 MAC.
  • Continue to evolve the PCS and PMA parameters for the long reach PHY
    • Double check and resolve any questions related to the link segment – (concern that some fieldbus cables are substantially different from the fieldbus cables that our link segment is based on)
    • Specify PCS operation for inclusion in the draft
    • Identify and specify any additional parameters for the PMA.


Additionally, we will need to continue our work on the powering annex – this will probably happen in connection with draft 0.1 review.  I know that Mr. Diminico is currently working on this.


We have lots to do to stay on track and get our standard moving.  Please try to progress as much as possible through the reflector.  If you have any questions, (of difficulty with the reflector) you may email me directly.
