Subject: +++ UPDATED IEEE 802.3 WG 3rd RECIRCULATION BALLOT: IEEE P802.3ch Multi-Gig Automotive Ethernet PHY ballot

Dear Colleagues,

It has come to the attention of the IEEE P802.3ch Task Force editorial team that there was an error in the implementation of a comment response in respect to equation 149-24 and an unnumbered equation below on page 171 of the IEEE P802.3ch clean draft. As a result an updated draft D2.3.1 has been uploaded to correct this and an updated 3rd Working Group recirculation ballot notice is provided below.

The changes in the ballot notice are updated references to D2.3.1, updated URLs for the clean and compare draft, as well an extension of the ballot close date to Wednesday 6th November 2019 providing an additional 15 days for review. If you have already responded to the 3rd Working Group recirculation ballot you do not need to respond again.

Best regards,
  David

Dear Colleagues,

This is the announcement of the electronic IEEE 802.3 Working Group 3rd recirculation ballot of the amendment IEEE P802.3ch Multi-Gig Automotive Ethernet PHY. Remember that voting, as well as attendance, is a requirement to maintain your IEEE 802.3 member (voter) status <http://ieee802.org/3/rules/member.html#DOT3>. Instructions for accessing the draft, casting your ballot and submitting comments follow this announcement. Please review the commenting instructions below to ensure you are using the most up to date tools.

The ballot group for this draft is the IEEE 802.3 voting membership as of Thursday 23rd May 2019.

Because this is a recirculation ballot, YOU ONLY NEED TO CAST A BALLOT IF YOU WISH TO CHANGE YOUR VOTE FROM THAT WHICH WAS RECORDED ON THE INITIAL BALLOT OR LAST RECIRCULATION. If you voted previously and your vote has not changed, the last ballot cast will be carried over to this ballot and you do not need to cast a new ballot.

BALLOT SCOPE:
During this IEEE 802.3 Working Group 3rd recirculation ballot, the scope of the ballot is the substantive changes between IEEE P802.3ch/D2.2 and IEEE P802.3ch/D2.3.1 and the unsatisfied negative comments.

CRITERIA FOR STANDARDS DEVELOPMENT:
One of the responsibilities as a balloter is to ensure that draft is consistent with the criteria for standards development (CSD) responses which are available at <https://mentor.ieee.org/802-ec/dcn/17/ec-17-0069-00-ACSD-802-3ch.pdf>. An Approve vote indicates your agreement that the draft is consistent with the CSD responses.

BALLOT OPEN:
Wednesday 16th October 2019

BALLOT CLOSE:
Wednesday 6th November 2019 23:59 AOE

The Project Authorization Request for this Amendment is available at <http://ieee802.org/3/ch/P802.3ch_PAR.pdf> and includes the following:

TITLE:
Standard for Ethernet Physical Layer Specifications and Management Parameters for Greater Than 1 Gb/s Automotive Ethernet

SCOPE OF PROJECT:
Specify additions to and appropriate modifications of IEEE Std 802.3 to add greater than 1 Gb/s Physical Layer (PHY) specifications and management parameters for media and operating conditions for applications in the automotive environment.

NEED FOR THE PROJECT:
Applications in automotive industries have begun the transition of legacy automotive networks to Ethernet to support Advanced Driver Assist Systems. This has generated a need for data rates greater than 1 Gb/s in the automotive environment. IEEE Std 802.3 does not currently support rates greater than 1 Gb/s in the automotive environment.

Thank you for your participation in this ballot and careful review of the draft.

HOW TO SUBMIT COMMENTS

Acceptable comment types:

E = Editorial
ER = Editorial Required (a binding comment that is part of a DISAPPROVE vote, therefore only appropriate for an IEEE 802.3 voting member)
T = Technical
TR = Technical Required (a binding comment that is part of a DISAPPROVE vote, therefore only appropriate for an IEEE 802.3 voting member)

1. Prepare your comments in one of the following three ways. You are STRONGLY REQUESTED to use either the comment tool or spreadsheet. A comment entry tutorial is available at:

<http://ieee802.org/3/ballots/p802d3_comment_entry_tutorial_v1p0.pdf>

a. Access the comment tool at the URL:

<http://www.ieee802.org/3/WG_tools/filemaker/Generic_Commenting_Tool_FM.zip>

To use the tool, extract all components into a folder and do not move any component from that folder as this will cause the executable to not work correctly. The tool is:

Comment_Tool_Generic_Solution.exe

b. Access the comment spreadsheet at the URL:

<http://www.ieee802.org/3/WG_tools/spreadsheet/802d3_TFR_WGB_comments.xls>

c. To submit comments in text (ASCII) form, please use the form below. This will make it possible for the editor to properly record and track all submissions. Make as many copies of the template as necessary and submit as an ASCII text file or as part of your e-mail.

PLEASE NOTE: The ASCII method involves a manual transcription, hence you are recommended to check your comments to ensure accurate transcription when the comment file is made available. Please use one of the comment tools above if possible.
