Re: [802.3BA] XR ad hoc Phone Conference Notice

What is the status of the OM4 specification?  Is there a draft that the editors will be able reference?

My preferred solution is a single PMD that supports:
At least 150m on OM3
At least 250m on OM4
This is essentially the Jack Jewell proposal from Munich.
It does not require a change to the objectives (since it will meet "at least 100m on OM3 fiber."
It does require a modification to the baseline proposal that was approved in Munich.
I plan to participate on the call on Thursday.
Best regards,

Subject: [802.3BA] XR ad hoc Phone Conference Notice

This is a reminder/notice that our next XR ad hoc phone conference is scheduled for Thursday, July 10, 8:30 to 10:30 AM PDT.  Please see the invitation below for additional details.

This will be our last meeting before the July 802.3ba meeting.  It will be appreciated by the task force if, at that meeting, we provide a recommended extended reach solution.  While some phone conference time may be devoted to filling in the blanks of the comparison matrix and debating the accuracy of various entries, it is important that we begin the selection process.

At this point only Mark Gustlin and Mark Nowell,

have submitted criteria.  I’ll try to summarize these below in order of priority and let Mark or Mark provide desired correction.

1, Minimum reach for XR should be 200 to 250 m.  Using OM4 is acceptable.
2, Solutions where modules are different are preferred to solutions where line cards are different.
3, An installer should be able to readily determine if the extended reach is supported by a particular port on a given device.

If these criteria do not reflect your priorities, you are encouraged to provide yours as a contribution.

Finally, Alessandro will host and chair this next phone conference.  I will continue to maintain the comparison matrix.
