Fly to Manchester Airport, preferably by taking a direct flight from the USA. If travelling from the West cost to attend the meeting this will involve leaving around Saturday lunch time to be able to make the connecting flight to Manchester. If you wish to avoid this or prefer to travel via London Heathrow you have three choices:

Manchester airport is approximately 70 miles from York. It has direct flights from New York with British Airways, Continental Airlines and Delta Air Lines, from Chicago and Dallas - Fort Worth with American Airlines, from Atlanta with Delta Air Lines, Orlando with Virgin Atlantic Airways and Toronto with Air Canada.
Manchester airport also has direct flights from London with 7 flights a day from London Gatwick and 20 flights a day from London Heathrow if you wish to fly via either of these airports.
There is a regular train service direct from the airport to York, approximate travel time is 2 hours. If however, you wish to hire a car at Manchester airport there are several rental companies including Avis and Hertz. The drive to York will take about 2 hours from Manchester Airport.
Leeds/Bradford Airport is approximately 25 miles from York however it is a small airport and somewhat less accessible. It has 5 direct flights a day from London Heathrow if you wish to travel via that airport.

London Heathrow airport is approximately 230 miles from York. It has many direct flights from North America.
York can be reached from London Heathrow either by flying on to Manchester or Leeds Bradford and following the direction above or by taking a train, via London, to York. Approximate travel time for the train is 3 to 4 hours. If however, you wish to hire a car at Heathrow airport there are several rental companies including Avis and Hertz. The drive to York will take about 4 to 5 hours from Heathrow Airport.
London Gatwick airport is approximately 250 miles from York. It has many direct flights from North America.
York can be reached from London Gatwick either by flying on to Manchester and following the direction above or by taking a train, via London, to York. Approximate travel time for the train is 3 to 4 hours. If however, you wish to hire a car at Gatwick airport there are several rental companies including Avis and Hertz. The drive to York will take about 4 to 5 hours from Gatwick Airport.
As York is a small city, you're unlikely to need a car during the meeting. If you wish to hire a car once you are in York, there is a Hertz car rental location in the station.
