Re: [8023-POEP] Plenary meeting dates

Mike-

You should also note that it is good to attend on Monday because:
1) Attendance, you need to attend 75% of the time for 75% of the days and the attendance book will not be passed on Thursday AM. If you need to leave early (not recommended) on Thursday and you might miss the attendance book then you had better come on Monday PM.

2) Discussion of your project in the plenary. Believe it or not, this is actually what you come for. You are (or are seeking to be) a real live member of 802.3. The meetings of 802.3 are where the binding discussion take place. all you do in the Task Force/Study Group is PROPOSE things to 802.3. If any of the work of the SG is challenged in the Plenary then you should be there to help defend your work. If any of your work turns out to be at odds (real or merely alleged) with other work in 802.3 then you should be there to participate in the discussion.

3) There may be an early discussion of the contents of your PAR and 5 Criteria. If the membership of 802.3 wants to discuss the PAR and 5 and there is no one from the Study Group to participate in the discussion then you will look like a bunch of schmucks who aren't really bought into the process.

4) Plenary discussion of other topics. One of the burdens that you have signed up for in order to have the privilege of developing an IEEE 802.3 Standard is an obligation and duty to actually participate in the business of the Working Group. That means you are supposed to provide your judgement and due diligence over the rest of the work and governance of the group. The way you do that is to participate in the plenaries and letter ballots.
Further, you really do need to plan to stay all the way through the discussion of your project on Thursday afternoon. The PAR and 5 Criteria will be discussed and voted on at that time. The approval by 802.3 is by no means a slam dunk. You vote is needed and your support during the discussion is likely to be needed.

Best regards,

Geoff Thompson

All:

This is the schedule I would expect for the July plenary meeting:

Monday July 18 ~ 16:00 Opening plenary presentation, not much need for people to attend just for this.  I will mention that the opening plenary is one of only two opportunities that you will have to change from a potential voter to a voter.  This will be closer to the 12:00 to 13:00 time so plan accordingly.

Tuesday July 19, 8:30 17:00 Full day of PoE Plus focusing on changes that are deemed necessary for the PAR, 5 Criteria and Objectives.  Some time will also be given to issues related to problems in the current spec that revolve around isolation barriers and isolation testing.

Wednesday July 20, 8:30 17:00 Full day of PoE Plus focusing on changes that are deemed necessary for the PAR, 5 Criteria and Objectives.  Some time will also be given to issues related to problems in the current spec that revolve around isolation barriers and isolation testing.

Thursday July 21, 8:30 12:00 Half day of PoE Plus with last minute changes to our documents as well as motions necessary for the continued operation of the group.

Thrusday July 21, 13:00 17:00 Closing plenary presentation and the second of only two opportunities that you will have to change from a potential voter to a voter.  The voter call will be around 13:00, the presentation will be very close to 17:00.  This is where we expect to ask to get approval to become a Task Force, please plan to attend.

Cheers

Mike
