RE: [802.3af] 802.3af standard or 802.af standard

Title: 802.3af standard or 802.af standard
Chris:

There is no 802.af project.  802.3af is not approved, it is in the first of two levels of balloting (Working Group ballot).

Participation in IEEE 802 is by individuals, not companies.  Individuals employed by many different companies have contributed (and are continuing to contribute) to the work of the Task Force.

Subject: [802.3af] 802.3af standard or 802.af standard

Gentlemen

I am being told by representatives of Avaya that a standard for Powering Voice Terminals over Ethernet is approved. They are also referring to a standard that is called 802.af. Is this the same thing or something different?

See also at there website : http://www1.avaya.com/enterprise/who/docs/iptelephones/techspecs.html

Im being told by Cisco however that the current proposal for the standard was/is developed by them or in close partnership with Cisco.

Is this correct or not?

Thank you for any information concerning this topic, I would appreciate your answer a lot.

Kind regards
