RE: IEEE 802 Rules Change Ballot--Elimination of Friday Plenary Meeting

I agree that Friday should be available for WG or TF meetings just Sunday
and Monday have been used in the past. I know I have attended 802.3 Task
Force meetings prior to the opening plenary in the past. Friday will also
be a convienient date for non-802 groups with related interests. Buzz, I
expect these irregular (both 802 and non-802) activites will add to our room
night count, but I also recognize the impossibility of counting on those
room nights. (For example, the 10 Gigabit Ethernet Alliance has set a
member meeting for Friday in La Jolla to allow participants to trade an
additional hotel night for a trip.)

I have one expression of WG interest in Friday meeting time. Unfortunately,
802.5 is
currently small and due to go into hibernation soon. Any other WG interest
in this as a
way to get more face-to-face meeting time (Dawn will love the plug, Bob! :))
???

Or do we need to wait and explore this concept at La Jolla before making any
decisions ???

Buzz, I believe that for any large groups with active projects face-to-face
meeting time is always in critically short supply. Even if Friday is
treated like a single "interim" meeting day, i.e. not counted toward
meeting attendance requirements, it would be very valuable to hold such
meetings. I know that 802.5 used them beneficially on a number of
occasions to help move the work forward.

Best regards.

Dave, Unfortunately, I don't think that is the plan at least as it has
been discussed so far. The proposal was that the WG's still complete
their work by Thursday afternoon but that the SEC meeting gets moved
to Friday AM so that SEC members have more time to prepare for
the meeting. Whether some WGs might want to schedule
additional working sessions for Thursday PM or Friday that would
retain the room block has not been discussed (at least not with me!).
So I'll pose the question: Does anyone see merit in this suggestion ???.
