RE: [802SEC] REFLECTOR SPAMMING

Buzz,

That is not entirely true. The list currently allows anyone to post to the
reflector and have it delivered to the SEC list members. This has been used
by a number of folks in the working groups (such as Ivan Reade and Harry
Worstell) that are not list members to make announcements or to begin
discussions. Restricting posts to the list members only would bounce all of
these messages to me (the list owner).

I have spoken with David Law (Thanks Pat!) and incorporated the filters that
he has in place for the 802.3 HSSG list. They have been in place since this
morning. This is an experiment to determine just how many posts get bounced
to me and how much trouble it is to create and maintain these filters. I'll
keep you posted.

 -Bob

Pat, Our SEC list is and has always been closed. The only way to get on
the list that I'm aware of, is for the list owner (currently Bob O'Hara) to
specifically
add you to the list. The public access aspect is accommodated by means of
the
web accessible email archive. So restricting the right to post to the list
to
only the members of the list would not change the public access to the
information, but it would surely cut-off the spam with NO filter maintenance
required. KISS !!!
Thanx, Buzz
