Re: [802SEC] withdrawn standards

Paul,

Their report on .2 and .5 is consistent with my vague recollections. It would be nice if they had something on line with this information.

I'm not sure they are entirely correct about 802.12. I'm wondering if the publication of the edtion has confused them or perhaps what they mean is that it is still active as an ISO/IEC standard. If it is the latter, even that must be nearing the end - I think they do 6 years rather than 5. As an IEEE standard I believe it has been administratively withdrawn. If it hasn't it is because they were confused by the "edition date". The 1998 "edition" includes the original 1995 IEEE 802.12 that was withdrawn and the IEEE 802.12d supplement.

I enclose the participant pages from 802.12-1988 which show that its contents are actually 1995 and 1997 standards. I'm 99% certain the 802.12-1995 part of the edition has been withdrawn and probably so has the 802.12d-1997.

Is an ISO/IEC standard with the IEEE versions having been withdrawn reason to keep a working group inactive rather than disbanded? I have difficulty seeing why.

Regards,
Pat

All,

As Mat noted, I had Andy Ickowicz do a search and the results are below.

802.5 and 802.2 were reaffirmed in 2003.

802.12 still has an active document.
