Re: [802SEC] +++EC 5 Day Review+++802.18 Comments on FCC Smart Grid Notice

Dear Geoff, Mike, and the balance of the EC,

The IEEE is an amazing place, one where we can all learn from each other.
Geoff has helped me with tutelage on his statement below, which I
appreciate. In an off line email conversation Goeff further explained
His statement:

"Wind turbines are generally in rural locations, a natural for TV Whitespace
They are generally deployed in sets in which there is a top of the tower
line of sight access to the next device, ideal for high frequency, highly
directional fixed (they don't move very often) tower to tower wireless
links."

I submit that following his logic which I agree with, that 802.20, and 3g/4g
Technologies should be included in the comments to the FCC on the Smart
Grid.

I believe the same logic that applies to WS as being a natural, also
applies to the Smart Grid.

Also, in accommodating both Geoff and Rogers helpful comments, the EC
can and should allow the additional wording to include IEEE802.20 and any
3g/4g technologies.

Thanks you Geoff...and all...Sincerely Nancy

Mike-

Thanks for putting in the changes I requested.
My non-vote goes to approve.

Since I expect there will be additional go-arounds on this topic, a
suggestion for the future.
This NOI seems to be centered on how to make the existing grid "smart"
with IT.
We also have facing us the very significant problem problem of taking
the current system which is sort of like a banyan tree (i.e. a rooted
tree but with lots of trunks and many but systematically indeterminate
interconnects) to something more like a full mesh in order to more fully
accommodate dispersed sources. In particular, it seems to me that there
is a fair match between the needs of wind turbine farms and the
capabilities of meshed wireless. TV White Space comes particularly to mind.

Perhaps we could put comments to that effect in next time.

Best regards,

Geoff
