Registration Fees & Deadlines: 

 

Late/On-site:  After 6pm Pacific Time, Monday, February 28, 2011

* $900 US for attendees staying at the Marina Bay Sands 

* $1200 US for all others (including local attendees) 

 

Registration fees include Deluxe Continental Breakfasts (daily, M-F),
3-Course Buffet Luncheon (M-Th), and morning (M-F) and afternoon (M-Th)
Coffee/Tea/Soda Breaks for all registered attendees.  

All Registered attendees will also receive a complimentary Universal AC Plug
Adaptor for personal use.  

 

Group Hotel Policy for Registration:  

 

The Registration Fee will be discounted by $300 US for attendees booking and
staying one or more nights in the 802-contracted hotel: the Marina Bay
Sands.  Please note payment of a $300 US surcharge will be required if your
MBS hotel stay cannot be verified by the hotel.  

 

Registration Cancellation & Refund Policy: 

 

Registration Cancellation requests submitted after the close of Early
Registration but before the close of Standard Registration may receive a
refund equal to the registration fee paid minus a $50 US Late Cancellation
Fee.  There is NO REFUND for cancellations received after 6pm PST of
February 28, 2011.  All refunds will be processed after the close of the
March 2011 Plenary Session.

PLANNING AND PREPARING FOR TRAVEL TO SINGAPORE

 

To make your trip to Singapore as seamless as possible, we have put together

SPOKEN LANGUAGE

 

English is the main language spoken in Singapore, most signage at various
destinations will be in English.  

 

CURRENCY

 

* The "Singdollar"  (SG$) is made up of 100 cents. 

* Cash Denominations of $2, $5, $10, $50, $100, $500, and $1000 are
available.

* Coins are 5¢,10¢, 20¢, 50¢, $1.00.  

* Currency can be exchanged at the Marina Bay Sands as well as all over the
city and at the Changi International Airport at a Currency Exchange.

ATM

 

ATMs can be found in most large shopping malls and MRT stations.  Most ATMs
will accept Visa, Mastercard, and cards with Plus or Cirrus.  

 

CREDIT CARDS

 

Major credit cards are widely accepted; please inform your credit card
company of your travel plans to ensure maximum coverage and minimize service
disruptions.

GMT +8:00

 

Singapore does not participate in Daylight Savings Time, there will be no
'spring forward' adjustment required during the March 2011 Plenary Session.

MOBILE PHONES

 

Mobile phone coverage is excellent throughout all of Singapore.  Check with
your service provider before you leave to confirm if an International Travel
Plan is right for you.  

 

Prepaid SIM cards are readily available in 7-Eleven convenience stores, the
MBS Business Center, shops & currency exchange counters.  You will need a
international passport to sign up.  

 

Local calls run from 5-25 cents per minute depending upon the service plan.

ELECTRICAL PLUGS 

 

Electricity in Singapore is 230 Volts, alternating current at 50 cycles per
second (50 Hz).  

If you travel to Singapore with a device that does not accept 230 Volts at
50 Hertz, you will need a voltage converter.  

Outlets in Singapore generally accept the standard British type of plug: 2
inline horizontal flat pins with a center vertical flat ground pin.  

If your appliances plug has a different shape, you will need to use a plug
adapter.  

 FREE Universal International Plug adapters will be provided to all
attendees at Registration during Badge Pick-up, complimentary from our I2R
Host organization.  

 

STAY HEALTHY

 

Tap Water: the water is safe for drinking and sanitation - standards very
high - a tropical climate country so do drink lots of water.  

 

Medical Care:  the standard of medical care is excellent - please make sure
your travel insurance is in order.

GROUND TRANSPORTATION

 

The Marina Bay Sands Airport Shuttle: 

 

Upon arrival:  The Marina Bay Sands airport shuttle bus runs every 30
minutes, 7 days/week from all 4 terminals at Changi Airport.  Simply present
your MBS confirmation email to the MBS shuttle bus driver at the coach bay
of your arrival terminal for free transfer to the MBS Hotel.  

 

TAXI: 

 

Upon arrival: Simply follow the signs after clearing customs.  Meters are
always used in Singapore and prices are very reasonable.  

 

An airport day trip - runs between $20.00 and $30.00 including the $3-$5
airport surcharge.  

 

There is an additional 50% surcharge applies between midnight and 6AM.

 

Taxis are plentiful and a reasonably fast & cost-effective means of
traveling around the city.  

 

Please abide by the queue method and use the marked areas in front of
hotels, and businesses as well as street side for the most efficient result.


 

LIMOUSINES and VAN SIZE CABS: 

 

Trips to  anywhere in the city - after midnight.  Trips before midnight may
be more expensive due to traffic congestion fees paid during peak periods.


 

CONGESTION FEES: 

 

As a means of traffic congestion management various time of day surcharges
exist on Singapore roads.  Please take this fact into consideration when
planning your trip.  

 

SUBWAY: 

 

MRT & LRT trains run throughout the city and the LRT trains run to and from
the Changi airport station between Terminal 2 and Terminal 3.  

 

You can download the train route maps from www.smrt.com.sg  and use it to
navigate your way around the island.  Look for signs for directions to
subway stations.  

 

CLOSEST SUBWAY STOPS TO MBS: 

 

There is an MRT stop at Marina Bay (closest) and an MRT & LRT stop at
Raffles Place, which is a short walk from the MBS.  

 

SUBWAY TOURIST PASS

 

Lastly, a special subway tourist discount card is available for purchase

BUS

 

There is no better way to uncover Singapore's hidden charms than by taking a

IEEE-802 Workshop:  Saturday, March 12, 2011  -  1-5pm

On Saturday March 12th, between 1pm and 5pm the IEEE-802 Executive Committee
will conduct an Informational Workshop and Panel Discussion open to all 802
attendees (no registration required).  The Topic will be "Introduction to
the IEEE-802 LAN/MAN Standards Committee: Current Standards Projects and
Future Directions".  The workshop will take place at the Marina Bay Sands
Convention Centre in the Sands Ballroom, Sections #JKL on the 5th Level.

New Member Orientation:  Monday, March 14, 2011 10-11am

On Monday March 14th at 10:00am one of our experienced 802 members will
conduct a one hour new member orientation session open to all 802 attendees,
in Sands #JKL.  Please confirm location onsite.

 

 

Welcome to Singapore:  Monday, March 14, 2011 11:15am

On Monday March 14th at 11:15 am our Singapore Hosts will conduct a
half-hour meeting open to all 802 attendees.  The meeting will take place on
the Convention Centre 5th Level in the Sands Ballroom #JKL.  Please confirm
this location onsite.  

 

During this Welcome meeting our Host organizations:  the Singapore Tourism
Board (STB), the Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) of Singapore, and the
Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R) of the Agency for Science, Technology,
and Research (A-STAR) will address our membership to introduce themselves
and their organizations, and to extend their welcome to the IEEE-802
community for bringing the March 2011 Plenary Session to Singapore.  Each
organization may offer a few suggestions for special/unique things to see
and do while in Singapore.

Host Technical Plenary:  Wednesday, March 16, 2011 

6-7pm

On Wednesday March 16th, from 6pm to 7pm our Technical Hosts (IDA & I2R)
will conduct a technical plenary meeting open to all 802 attendees.  They
will present information on their current & future Infocomm Research &
Development projects that they believe will be of interest to IEEE-802
attendees.  This plenary will take place on the 5th Level of the MBS
Convention Centre in the Sands Ballroom #JKL.  Please confirm location
onsite.  It will be followed by the IEEE-802 Social in Sands Ballroom #MNOP.


 

 

IEEE-802 Tutorial Topics:  Monday, March 14, 2011  

6-11pm

All 802 tutorials will take place on the 5th Level of the MBS Convention
Centre in Sands Ballroom #JKL.  Please confirm location onsite.  See
