Re: [802SEC] +++ 10 day EC email ballot +++ IEEE 802 response to China NB comments on IEEE Std. 802

Glenn,

I vote Disapprove.

On one hand, the draft (which, by the way, I believe should not be circulated without being labeled as a draft) says that "IEEE RA is the exclusive registration authority for the ISO/IEC 8802 series of international standards." On the other, it says that "it has been the practice to define the necessary network resources and the corresponding registration authority on a standard by standard basis. In many cases, the network resources are allocated by the Working Group."
These two statements could be understood as contradictory. The response should explain why they are not.

Since the comment referred to OID, the response should point to Clause 10 of IEEE Std 802. Also IEEE 802 should capitalize "EtherType" correctly.

Also, as always, I believe that motions endorsing liaison communications should specify the procedure under which approval is sought, since it's often hard to tell and since the procedural requirements differ.

Regards,

Roger

Dear EC Members,

Paul has delegated the conduct of the EC electronic ballot on the following motion to me. To ensure this response is sent as soon as practical I'm announcing the possibility of an 'early close' to this ballot (see below).

The proposed SC6 response on IEEE Std 802 comments was reviewed in 802.1 at its January interim and approved.  Further consultation with the 802 JTC1 SC resulted in further improvements to the response.  In keeping with previous SC6 comments, it was recommended that this response be approved by the EC.   The SC6 FDIS ballot will proceed on IEEE Std. 802 after the receipt of this response.

Regards,

Glenn
