[802SEC] Agenda items for call today

Dear EC members,

Please find some background information, as well as motions, in respect to the two additional agenda items I requested for today's call.

Best regards,

Item 10.00 (ME)

Based on the attached draft liaison letter, which was approved (Y: 77, N 0, A:1) at the IEEE 802.3 Working Group interim meeting on 21st January 2016, I would like to seek approval to liaise the IEEE P802.3bn EPON protocol over Coax (EPoC), P802.3bp 1000BASE-T, P802.3bq 25G/40GBASE-T, P802.3br Interspersing Express Traffic (IEF), and P802.3by 25Gb/s Ethernet initial sponsor ballot drafts to ISO/IEC JTC1 SC6. This is in anticipation that the respective published standards will be submitted to ISO/IEC JTC1 SC6 for adoption under the PSDO agreement.

Motion:

Forward IEEE P802.3bn, P802.3bp, P802.3bq, P802.3br, and P802.3by drafts to ISO/IEC JTC1 SC6 for review.

Item 11.00 (MI)

At the November plenary meeting the IEEE 802 EC approved the formation of two IEEE 802.3 Study Groups as follows:

- IEEE 802.3 50 Gb/s Ethernet over a single lane Study Group
- IEEE 802.3 Next generation 100 Gb/sand 200 Gb/s Ethernet Study Group

These two Study Groups met jointly during the IEEE 802.3 January interim meeting series and concluded, based on the two draft PARs they developed, that the charter of the two Study Groups should be adjusted to align to the scope of these draft PARs. As a result the following motion was approved (Y: 72, N: 0, A: 0) at the IEEE 802.3 Working Group interim meeting held on 21st January 2016.

Move that the IEEE 802.3 Working Group request that the EC:

- Expand the charter of the current 50 Gb/s Ethernet over a single-lane Study group to include next generation 100 Gb/s and 200 Gb/s Ethernet rates
- Reduce the charter of the Next generation 100 Gb/s and 200 Gb/s Ethernet Study Group to 200 Gb/s single mode fiber.

As can be seen the scope of the overall work has not changed, just the distribution of the work between the two groups. As a result of this motion I would like to make the

Motion:

The IEEE 802 EC approve:

- Expanding the charter of the current 50 Gb/s Ethernet over a single-lane Study group to include next generation 100 Gb/s and 200 Gb/s Ethernet rates
- Reducing the charter of the Next generation 100 Gb/s and 200 Gb/s Ethernet Study Group to 200 Gb/s single mode fiber.
