[802SEC] IEEE 802.3cm draft PAR and CSD response - 400 Gb/s over Multimode Fiber

Dear EC members,

In support of subclause 9.2 'IEEE 802 LMSC Approval' of the LMSC Operations Manual please find below the required information in respect to the IEEE 802.3cm Standard for Ethernet: Amendment Physical Layer and Management Parameters for 400 Gb/s over Multimode Fiber PAR for consideration at the March 2018 plenary.

Best regards,
  David

Draft PAR: <https://mentor.ieee.org/802-ec/dcn/18/ec-18-0017-01-00EC-ieee-p802-3cm-draft-par.pdf>
Draft CSD: <https://mentor.ieee.org/802-ec/dcn/18/ec-18-0018-01-00EC-ieee-p802-3cm-draft-csd.pdf>

[2] Explanatory technical background material:

Rapid growth of server, network, and internet traffic is driving the need for higher data rates, higher density, lower cost fiber optic solutions, especially in the data center space. To address these needs, advances in technology now allow the specification of new 400 Gb/s physical layer types operating over fewer multimode pairs than in existing IEEE 802.3 Ethernet projects and standards. This will support both the installed base and new installations of multimode fiber cable.

[3] Status of the development of the PAR:

The draft PAR and CSD responses are pending IEEE 802.3 Working Group approval at the March 2018 plenary.
