Re: [802SEC] Draft press release for review - IEEE Std 802.3bs-2017 200 Gb/s and 400 Gb/s Ethernet publication

Hi Roger,

I spoke to the IEEE PR folk and they are looking in to the possibility of an IEEE 802.3 specific boilerplate, rather than the current IEEE 802 boilerplate. That however will take some time and is something I'd like to discuss with the IEEE 802 EC before moving forward with. Based on this, in the interests of time, I'd like to progress with this particular press release without further change, for you reference the version I circulated last week is available at <https://mentor.ieee.org/802-ec/dcn/18/ec-18-0029-01-00EC-ieee-std-802-3bs-2017-draft-press-release.pdf>.

Best regards,
  David

Hi Roger,

Thank you for these comments, please find attached an updated release with the references to the standard (IEEE Std 802.3bs-2017) and the project that developed it (IEEE P802.3bs) corrected. In respect to mentioning other ongoing activities in IEEE 802.3 I've contacted the IEEE-SA PR folk about this and will provide another update when I hear back.

Based on this I will seek this approval at the closing IEEE 802 EC plenary meeting on the Friday 9th March 2018 consent agenda, rather than tomorrow as I originally announced.

Best regards,
  David

David,

I like it. Please remember to replace "P802.3bs™-2017" with "IEEE Std 802.3bs-2017".

Just a thought: would it be an opportune time to mention any other ongoing activities in 802.3? I know that the last paragraph says that 802 is always evolving, but it might help people to know whether, regarding the markets addressed by 802.3bs, you are taking a break or are already laying the groundwork for another step forward.

Cheers,

Roger

Dear EC members,

Based on the publication of IEEE Std 802.3bs-2017 Standard for Ethernet Amendment: Media Access Control (MAC) Parameters, Physical Layers and Management Parameters for 200 Gb/s and 400 Gb/s I have arranged for the development of the attached press release. Since the development of this press release was at the request of the Task Force Chair and myself I'm seeking EC approval.

I will seek this approval at the opening IEEE 802 EC plenary on Monday 5th March 2018 and I'm going to request that this be placed on the consent agenda. Based on this I would like to request comments on the attached draft.

Thanks and best regards,
David
