Dear LMSC Members,

With this email I would like to announce the start of an LMSC(EC) Early Close ballot on comments to Ofcom (UK) in response to their changes to the licence exemption for Wireless Telegraphy Devices consultation.  The deadline there for comments is 17Jan20.

Paul has delegated to me to conduct a LMSC(EC) Early Close 10-day electronic ballot on the motion below to approve the comments to the Ofcom.  This EC motion is per IEEE 802 OM 7.2.1 Procedure, P&P 7.1 b) (majority response) and P&P 7.1.2 (2/3 approval of votes cast) for communication with government bodies and public statements.  With that we would like to see everyone respond.

·         Motion: Move to approve the comments in https://mentor.ieee.org/802.18/dcn/19/18-19-0161-02-0000-ofcom-consultation-comments-ieee-802-exemptions-wireless-telegraphy.odt; response to Ofcom on changes to the licence exemption for Wireless Telegraphy Devices consultation.  With the Chair of 802.18 authorized to make editorial changes as necessary and send to Ofcom on or before 17 January 2020 (UK).

Approved in the RR-TAG: 6 / 0 / 0

Mover:     Jay Holcomb

Seconder:  Dorothy Stanley

Start of ballot: 06 January 2020

Close of ballot: 16 January 2020,

though early close will help to meet Ofcom’s deadline

The Ofcom consultation:

https://mentor.ieee.org/802.18/dcn/19/18-19-0160-00-0000-ofcom-consultation-exemptions-wireless-telegraphy.pdf

Early close: As required in subclause 4.1.2 'Voting rules' of the IEEE 802 LAN/MAN Standards Committee (LMSC) Operations Manual, this is notice that, to ensure the release is provided in a timely manner, this ballot may close early once sufficient responses are received to clearly decide a matter. Sufficient responses to clearly decide this matter will be based on the required majority for a motion under subclause 7.1.1 'Actions requiring approval by a majority vote' item (h), 'Other motions brought to the floor by members (when deemed in order by the Sponsor Chair)' of the IEEE 802 LAN/MAN Standards Committee (LMSC) Policies and Procedures.

note: the comments are in Open Office format, as it came from Ofcom.  MS Word does tend to affect the format some.
