Sorry for the late response. Two comments for the price of one:
1)
Marshall Anderson wrote:
> Personally nothing would please me more than restricting development
> to making what we have work reliably, rather than constantly introducing new
> product.

And Ben Hyde responded:
>If the technology would only stand still for a moment maybe educators and
learners alike would have a chance to
get to grips with this new way of learning/communicating.
>People should stop trying to use the latest and most
advance technology and identify what is reliable and is easy to use.

I want to add that in 1990, Paul Saettler in his landmark work, The Evolution
of American Educational Technology, commented on how the oncoming rush of
tomorrow's educational technology tends to overwhelms today's. He said,

"Past history (...of Educational Technology in America) has clearly shown
that before one technology can be developed in an orderly process for maximum
efficiency, a new one appears on the horizon. Beginning with the
instructional slide, a kind of media bandwagon syndrome has influenced
educator's decisions…implying that existing educational problems could be
cured by the use of this new medium…or technology."
                                                    (Saettler, 1990 p 404)

2) The exchange between Marshall and Ben reflect, in my opinion, the best
and highest use of this list serve. Engaged and informed academics and
practitioners exchanging critical views, keen insights, and new findings. We
should try to continue in their footsteps.
