Dear Group,
I would like to say that on the one hand it is right that people could learn
autonomously and have to, but on the other hand, it is wrong for learning
autonomously.
1. Some people in this world have to learning autonomously since they live in the
sparsely populated area or poorly net-lised area, such as in very north of the
Nordic countries, in the past time, and esp. in correspondence education time.
People have to learn in most of their time by themselves alone. Still, for those
who are keen on autonomous learning, they must be very well disciplined and very
clear on what they are learing, they could conduct autonomous learning.
2. For over 80% of common distance learners, they are not in the above cases. They
are very much fond of interactive learning, also such as in Nordic countries, in
the past and esp. at present, when now, they have developed quite well the network
all over the countries. They could have no 'chances' to learn autonomously since
the learning and teaching theories in distance learning (Holmberg, B. 1999)
provoked flexible learning, conversational learning between students, and students
and the teachers/tutors/monitors.
3. For the present learning materials for virtual learning or distance learning,
most of them are not provoking autonomous learning, esp. for the theoretical
learning materials which could not be learned by application at their work
immediately. We need learning materials to train student to have the habit of
autonomous learning at least we should try to do very much on it.
4. I would like to say that for 'autonomous learning', in my point of view, could
most possiblely happened to those who have strong interests in what they are
learning or who are doing the job by learning the material--that means they
practice it right after they learn how to do. Otherwise, for those degree
persurers, job promostion expectors, with less interests in what they are
learning, esp. those at the age of not being regarded as matured young adult
students, it will be difficult for them to have autonomous learning. This has
been very much the cases happened in learning environment of Eastern culture,
since students have formed the habit to be 'fed in' the learning matierials for
the purposes of passing the exam.
I am very new in this subject and I warmly welcome all the comments on what I
write above.
Best wishes
Sincerely yours
